FINAL REFLECTION

What have I learnt in this module?

First of all, in this module, I definitely learned about Design Principles. Before this, I had heard of some Design Principles in Photography, like the Rule of Thirds, but in this module, I learned so much more! The experience made me feel, "Wow! I can actually use so many Design Principles in my designs and artwork!" Hahaha, it makes me think that I should have taken this module earlier so I could have made my artwork look better and more refined.

What did I enjoy the most?

What I enjoyed the most in this module was recording all my progress in blogs. This gave me a sense of achievement. I also liked the step-by-step process because the final outcome was so satisfying. I especially enjoyed thinking about which Design Principles to use in my design work, it made me feel like I had so many possibilities! Instead of making rigid designs, I realized I could explore many different ideas.

What did I not enjoy the most?

I think it would be Task 3… because in Task 2, I sketched a design that I really liked and wanted it to be like. However, Task 3 required me to develop that design further. When I looked at the module booklet, I was like, "Oh nooo!" I had no idea how to develop my Task 2 design. Maybe I was too stuck on my original idea. But then, I re-read the module booklet and saw that Task 3 required "Develop it through color exploration, composition, typeface, positioning, etc., with Design Principles in mind." So, I tried to explore and do research. I realized that I could develop my design in a different way by applying the Design Principles I had learned. With Dr. Jinchi’s suggestions, I gradually came up with a new idea!

What have I learnt about myself through this module?

As I mentioned earlier, this experience taught me not to limit my ideas, there are so many possibilities! I tend to get stuck in one way of thinking, but through this module, I learned something really important that changed me: "Everything has its own possibilities. Don't just stick to one idea!" I am so grateful for this meaningful experience.

What has changed and what has not in my learning journey?

What has changed is my way of thinking about design. Learning about Design Principles made me feel so inspired! What has not changed, though, is my illustration skills. I am really grateful to have learned Design Principles because they have enriched my sense of art and given me an eye-opening experience. However, my illustration skills still have room for improvement, and I hope to keep improving over time.

What are my aspirations?

In this course, Design of Creative Media, as the name, it really requires a lot of creativity! I want to keep Design Principles in mind in all my future design and artwork. Also, I will remind myself "Don’t lock my thoughts and ideas!" This course truly requires creativity, so I should do whatever inspires me and just enjoy the process!
